March 4, 2022 — Global Forum Online (PJP), a national initiative that trains incarcerated writers to be journalists and publishes their stories, has been awarded an inaugural grant from The Just Trust, a new grantmaking initiative dedicated to reforming the criminal legal system.

PJP was selected to receive the two-year grant as part of a broader $36.3 million commitment made by The Just Trust and its 501(c)(4) counterpart, The Just Trust for Action, to 25 organizations doing criminal justice reform work that falls into one or more of six funding priorities: advocacy infrastructure; campaign moments; media and narrative projects; justice alternatives; partnership and coordination; and rapid response. Other notable grantees include Ear Hustle, Capital B, The 19th, REFORM Alliance and the ACLU Campaign for Smart Justice.

This is the second significant grant awarded to PJP in 2022 — the organization recently announced a multi-year grant from the FWD.us Education Fund. Both grants will be used to build a sustainable organization, expand training offerings through PJP J-School and fund the development of an outside newsroom that can support prison journalists.
